What This Means in the Essex Tradition
Within the lineage of St. Silouan → St. Sophrony → Archimandrite Zacharias:
Zacharias is considered the primary living interpreter of St. Sophrony’s theology.
He served as St. Sophrony’s translator, student, and closest theological heir.
About the book:
The word of the Lord reveals, on the one hand, our archetype -the Son and Word of the Father- and, consequently, the eternal Will of God for man. On the other hand, however, it reveals the wretched distortion of man after his fall. But who will hear His voice, or see in his heart the form of Christ, the giver of the word, and not be changed, not repent, not reassess his ways? Who is he who will taste the words of the Most High God Jesus and not be bowed down to the end with gratitude? Who is he to whom the Lord will entrust the word of the Heavenly Father, and he will not love Him to the end, even to the hatred of ‘his own soul’ – an event that deeply wounds the heart of man? Whoever keeps the divine word, he loves the Lord and follows Him ‘whithersoever He goeth’ (Rev. 14:4). First, he descends into the hell of his personal repentance and then rises together with the Only-begotten Son into the embrace of God the Father.
