Saint Eugene was one of the Five Companions who suffered for Christ under the emperor Diocletian (284-305) at Sebaste, in Armenia. Saints Eustratius, Auxentius, Mardarius, and Orestes were the other four.

St Eugene’s tongue was ripped out, his hands and feet were cut off, and then he was beheaded with a sword.
